ForgeRock Releases OpenDJ

ForgeRock Adds Directory Service Project OpenDJ to Portfolio

  • LDAPv3 compliant directory service
  • 100% pure Java
  • Multi-Master Replication
  • High-availability and disaster recovery options

Open World Forum – PARIS – October 1, 2010 – Further extending its open source access and identity management portfolio, ForgeRock today announced they have added the OpenDJ open source directory server in Java to their I3Open Platform, and are offering enterprise-class subscriptions and training for it. Additionally, they announced that Ludovic Poitou, a key developer for the OpenDS project, is joining the company.

OpenDJ will build on the strong foundation laid by the OpenDS project, an open source directory server in Java from which it has been created. OpenDJ provides a highly scalable, fully standards-compliant, 100% pure Java directory server delivering LDAP-compliant access to massive numbers of entries. OpenDJ provides the perfect complement to OpenAM, the access management successor to OpenSSO, within the ForgeRock I3 Platform.

ForgeRock also announced immediate availability of OpenDJ 2.4 beta 1 from where participation is welcomed. The release includes 10 new features and many important fixes, bringing long awaited solutions to OpenDS users. Notably, the support for standards-based Collective Attributes will allow migration of deployments using ClassOfService objects to OpenDJ.

ForgeRock announced that, with immediate effect, they will offer enterprise subscriptions for OpenDJ using their unique no-lock-in Fair Share Pricing approach based on lifecycle phase and installation complexity, as well as providing OpenDJ training. For more details, visit

ForgeRock is also delighted to welcome Ludovic Poitou to its team. Ludovic has been the recognized leader of the OpenDS community for four years and will lead ForgeRock’s engagement with its successor, OpenDJ from ForgeRock’s new development facility in Grenoble, France.

“Ludovic’s experience and community reputation mean this important new pillar of the I3 Open Platform is in capable hands. It’s a real delight to work with him again” said ForgeRock’s CEO Lasse Andresen.

ForgeRock’s chief strategy officer, Simon Phipps, commented, “once again the freedom that accompanies open source software has meant that investments in key infrastructure are protected despite a strategy change by the original creator of the software. Just as OpenAM has already welcomed so many of the significant users of OpenSSO, the OpenDJ directory server in Java provides a smooth transition option for existing OpenDS deployments.”
